Personality:
It's hard on where to start on Ken Ichijouji's personality, as by the surface, it seemed like he changed almost drastically within the course of his journey from his fairly neglected childhood to him having a more supportive environment. However, at the core of it, a lot of Ken's actions and intentions are deeply rooted to kindness. For good or ill, he has the best intentions even if they inspire him to make the worst choices. Rather than him becoming a practically, completely different person, it's more of the case where his worldview changes and so does how he applies his thoughtful, kind nature.
He's a kind boy. At the end of it, there's no other way of saying it besides the fact that it's the biggest aspect of his personality - to the point that he's able to tap into the crest of kindness' power which is only possible if the owner displays strong characteristics liken to the crest. Even at an early age before his adventure actually started, Ken showed a lot of thought and care to people around him, like how he was quick to wish he could make his mother smile like the way his brother's grades and achievements did so. He's the type to think of others before him, only wishing and doing the best for people he cares about rather than his own needs. For him, nothing makes him happier more than making his family and friends smile.
To a fault, Ken's observant personality lends very well with his gentle nature. The two aspects of himself goes well hand in hand that his thoughtfulness is always careful and well laid out. As he tends to think of others before him, there isn't a moment where a move or act isn't thoughtless, from the choices he makes to how he adjusts the way he speaks around people. While this draws some distance between him and others, the motivation behind it is based on the fact he doesn't want to impulsively jump his own thoughts or ideas to someone else.
Unfortunately, while the trait encompasses almost his whole self, it doesn't always mean that it ends as the ultimate good. Especially in regards to the fact that his worldview may not be always entirely correct depending on the situation. Ideally his intentions would mean for the good, however realistically, even his most best intentions could lead into the worst case scenario or something less than preferred for the people that cares for him. While a lot of his 'worst' choices were under the dark seed's influence, they were -and still very much are- real choices that his current self would have likely consider if the only colateral damage would be his own self. Since he doesn't really have a high self-esteem, Ken doesn't mind puting himself in the worst scenario if it means that people around him suffer less or at all.
In many cases, no matter how much it causes him pain or anguish, Ken would gladly take the hit if it means no one else would suffer because of him. This part of him becomes something of a double edge sword considering he would drag things as long as possible rather than being the first one to admit that something is personally bothering or upsetting him. The biggest example to this would be the very creation of his Digimon Kaiser persona. As mention before, while the Dark Seed twists his personality as time went on, it is still essentially a corrupted variation of his real self. And, during the Kaiser's initial appearance, the persona mostly acts as his way to cope with the anger and stress he puts himself into while trying to make his parents happy by, more or less, impersonating his deceased brother Osamu Ichijouji. Before he knew the reality of it or even before the Dark Seed's influence making him more and more hostile, he created the persona to lash out in what he had perceived as a video game that could be his personal safe space to vent out. Emphasized by 'what he perceived in'. The moment he realizes that the Digital World is not some video game, he breaks out of the Dark Seed's influence and is completely horrified in what he had done to the inhabitants of that realm.
Though the Dark Seed is still deeply implanted in him, it remains mostly weak since him joining the rest of the chosen children and atoning his past crimes. However, traces of the seed still lingers, namely the device's attempts at pulling him back to the darkness whenever Ken comes close to the Dark Ocean or anything in similar power. This leads to him having a psychological trauma and discomfort around the dark, generally his friends and even his digimon partner sees it as him 'being afraid of the dark'. While technically correct, it goes slightly deeper than that, in which Ken fears the lack of control and the possibility that the darkness would tempt him back in during the moment of weakness and use his desires against him thus becoming his own antithesis once again and listening his selfish needs.
As much he would do his best to do everything for everyone around him, his main traits doesn't mean he isn't without a selfish thought. If anything, he's hyperaware that he isn't as selfless as he seems to be. This is partially because a part of him wishes that he could be smart and make his parents proud so they would pay attention to him, for him to have some kind of validation that he has a place in their family. His self esteem however plays a much larger contribution to him being hyper aware of his own needs; magnifying them and putting them in a much more negative light than they actually are. In truth a lot of his 'selfish' desires had been from the fact that he wanted to be acknowledged without playing the role of Osamu after his passing.
This goes deeper into his psyche since it's long embed from his early childhood that he feels that he isn't entirely significant or has any place that he can call his own. This is due to the way his parents had initially gave more attention to Osamu- specifically with how neighbors and teachers praised Osamu for being academically gifted. Ken had been young enough to be extremely impressionable and remember every single detail, and thus, it left him a conclusion that he isn't wanted or that his older brother is a sort of pedestal that will give him the answer that he wishes; acknowledgement. But, since he thrived for that goal and came with nothing but anger and frustration, it's still a long journey before he reaches to a more content place. Even now as his parents long to reconnect with their son and see him as his own as well as the afformentioned son gaining friends who like for who is, Ken is still not actually entirely sure where he goes from here on.
With how his self-esteem is so low and that he tends to be hyperaware of things he wants, it's no surprise that he's extremely critical of himself. It's unfortunately a byproduct of both his kind nature and his early childhood of being neglected, everything he does is for other people and everything he wants he isn't worthy to get easily. After all, things are much easier to get if you actually had everything to begin with, and to Ken, he occasionally still believes he has nothing. This only cements further with the fact his actions as the Digimon Kaiser is something he can't forgive about, and still can't accept that people are willing to let him go so easily. It's shown in the last few episodes of the series that despite everything, he still wishes that he would be put to justice for the crimes he had done to the Digimon and the Digital World.
Ken still has a lot to work out but gradually he's slowly growing out of his shell thanks to the support around him. Namely the fact that he could have Wormmon to jogress evolution with another Digimon is one of the initial signs that Ken's heart is slowly opening up to the others. It's evident that despite his negative outlook on himself, he does wish to reach out and befriend the other children even though he believes that they have every right to hate his guts. In fact, he doesn't even blame Iori at all when the younger boy openly says that he could not accept Ken as a friend so soon. The fact that his budding friendship with the others shows that he does want to be better of himself and to gradually do things of what he wants, not just what makes others happy. It's a long journey, but he's doing his best even with the hazy memories and mistakes he needs fix.
"... Because, you're so kind. But, kindness isn't enough. You have to become stronger, or you'll be overwhelmed by your own kindness."
Above all, despite all his fears and all of his insecurities, one memory of his first adventure sticks out and it's the words that Wormmon had impart to him. His partner's words are in fact what he needs to commit the most.
"The digivice you have is yours. Not anyone else's, just yours. Just like your heart is yours, don't forget that. And, don't run away.'
And he has no intention of forgetting anymore as he slowly betters himself.
Debt:
The Witch greeted him just a little after he had talked to his parents about the Digital World and his involvement with it. Due to the immense power coming from the Witch tempting the darkness within him, without him realizing it, he wished for the biggest desire that's currently on his mind: defeating Oikawa and for the copy seeds removed from the children he had abducted.
Previous Game Info: -
Inventory:
- D-3 Digivice
- D Terminal
- Crest of Kindness
Abilities:
Ken's body hosts a Dark Seed, specifically one that was created by Millenniummon. The Dark Seed is a device that is able to increase the host's intelligence and athletic ability, though the Dark Seed is capable of adapting based on the host that it resides in. It also gives Ken an affinity towards a realm known as the Dark Ocean as well as utilizing the power of darkness- at the cost of potentially losing himself. While the Dark Seed grants the host these enhancement, it also increases their aggression and malicious tendencies. The only way to negate this is for the host to avoiding giving too much into negative emotions.
Above that however is that Ken's a chosen child, tasked on saving the Digital World from destruction. His emotions and power are essentially 'linked' to unlock Wormmon's evolution line, including the ability for Stingmon to jogress evolution with Daisuke Motomiya's XV-mon in order to become Paildramon then evolving even further to Imperialdramon both dragon and fighter mode. However Ken is merely triggers for the evolutions, he can't do this to any other Digimon nor there being any other extraordinary abilities to this.
Ken is pretty much a normal boy besides having a black spore stuck at the back of his neck and being a literal trigger for a monster that's made up of data.
Strengths and Weaknesses:
+ Strong endurance, good stamina.
+ Fairly fluent in Spanish.
+ Knowledgeable in at least one or two computer programming languages.
+ A fairly talented strategist for his age.
+/- The Dark Seed - which gave him the skills listed above and are still retained even after the device's influence has weakened, however it also nows puts him sensitive towards the supernatural, something he still has a hard time adjusting.
- Fear of the dark.
- Very self-critical.
- Can seem too distant without having the intention to do so.
- Tendency to go for the extreme.

The summer sun was burning comparing to the strong wind against his skin, he was almost worried that he might get sand in his eyes. He was glad at least that it was midday rather than the mornings or the twilight of the evenings, it was still uncomfortable being in Koriko and he wasn't sure if was entirely ready to go anywhere near the beach shore during certain hours of the day. He might have conquered his fear, but he still remained slightly cautious on even the idea of wandering around the ocean.
Ever since arriving the island, he couldn't really settle the sense of dread that now lives in his stomach, ever present and making him ever aware that he wasn't quite like the other boys-- the other kids from his home at least, and hopefully he was the only one now like this. No one else should live through what happened to him and what effects stayed even after the dark device's influence dwindled.
The eerie feeling under his skin was fine, the fact he was away from home for now was fine- as long as Oikawa was stopped and that the kids were okay. His stomach churned thinking how much mama is likely sobbing for days end now, but he puts on a brave smile as he walked up to the spirit he was suppose to meet on the beach. There was a terrifying draw to the creature beyond him- he wanted to so badly run with how much his legs were shaking, but the young boy fought the urge.
Caesar kept his voice even as he greeted the funayurei with perfect politeness, "excuse me sir, I'm here to deliver a package for a spirit that lives near the shack over by the beach."
The funayurei critically eyed him, the young boy can only hope that his looks didn't betrayed him too much. It felt like an eternity to him, Caesar's smile already aches and the blistering sun was starting to make him sweat, it was only then that the spirit reached its hands out and for the young boy to hand it the package. It takes away the package and handed the boy some pocket money. Caesar bowed politely before the funayurei, "thank you very much sir, we hope that you use our services again."
Even after the spirit left, Caesar still has his head hung low as he stared at the sand underneath his bare feat. He just needed some practice, eventually he would be able adjust coexisting with various levels of the supernatural without fearing that he would drown in it.
